Making a Good Impression With Your Resume

You only get one chance to make a good impression with your resume and cover letter. It's the very first important "meeting" between you and a prospective employer. Most people think it's the interview. Wrong! Your job interview is a chance to reinforce that first impression and to express more of the benefits that you're offering the employer.
In order to get called in for job interviews you must present yourself as exactly what the employer wants, without lying. Not always an easy task. It is especially hard to be objective about yourself. You perceive yourself as being one way, while others perceive you in a different light.
Here's an eye opener: It doesn't matter how good YOU think you are for the job. All that matters is what conclusion the employer draws when he reads over your resume and cover letter!
Therefore, your job is to control how the employer sees you in relation to what he/she thinks the ideal candidate should "look" like…and become that candidate without distorting the truth.
A resume and cover letter are the tools you use to "sell" your skills and knowledge to an employer. Carefully construct your resume to be the best advertisement for a very special product that the employer definitely wants to find out more about. That "product" is you and you need to do the best selling job that you can to get that interview. Are you up to the challenge?
